How We Turbocharge Our Mornings

Matt and I love sipping coffee together in the morning. It’s a comforting ritual to start the day. We have more than just coffee. We maximize our coffee for taste and health benefits! This is next level. This gets us through CrossFit, and gives us the brainpower to work on some intense writing. It also gives us energy to deal with a very energetic puppy! Our coffee has ingredients for healthy hormones, energy, brain power, stamina, and gives us an overall great start every morning.

This is not your normal cup o joe!

What goes in?

First, we start with only the best coffee originated in our backyard of Saratoga Springs, New York. Good ol Deathwish coffee aka the strongest coffee in the world. We find this coffee at the Healthy Living Market in Saratoga Springs NY, but you can also order it on Amazon (not an affiliate link).

Next we add:

Perfect Ketones:

These are exogenous ketones, which help your body to reach for an alternative fuel source to glucose, aka putting you in a fat burning state for a few hours. This is great for anyone who doesn’t want to go all out ketogenic, but is looking for some ketogenic benefits. Some of the benefits we notice are increased energy, brain power, killing our workouts, and sleeping better at night. The chocolate sea-salt flavor adds a hint of sweetness. Our favorite benefit to exogenous ketones, is that they really help to energize us for CrossFit, and get us through the workout in a fasted state, without getting all ‘low blood sugary’ feeling. Another brand of ketones we love to use in our coffee are the Pruvit brand (I am affiliated).

Dr Collagen Multi Collagen powder:

Dr Collagen contains five different types of collagen’s like Types I, II, III, IV, V and X. It is derived from chicken bone broth, hydrolyzed fish collagen peptides, hydrolyzed bovine collagen peptides, and eggshell membrane collagen. Collagen helps to support and maintain skin elasticity, encourages joint durability and flexibility, aid in gut health, enhance muscles recovery and promotes restful sleep. Remember, our ancestors ate all parts of the animal and had a lot more collagen in their diet. Now we discard the parts that are beneficial to our bodies. Collagen peptides dissolve right into the coffee and you can’t taste them. The benefits are amazing!

Gelatinized Maca Powder (not pictured, was a bit camera shy):

We use TerraSoul (not affiliate link) brand maca powder. Maca is great for energy, hormone health for both males and females, and has a ton of minerals in it. This bag is inexpensive, and has over 200 servings in it. Gelatinized means it’s easier to digest and get the nutrients from it. It has a nice caramel/nutty taste, and all you need is ½ a tsp a day to get the amazing benefits.

Real Mushrooms Reishi 415 Extract Powder:

This is Reishi 415 (Ganoderma Lucidum) made from 100% organic reishi mushroom fruiting body. It is hot water and alcohol (dual extraction). This maximizes the beta glucans and triterpenes present, which lends Reishi it’s famous bitterness profile and medicinal properties! It pairs beautifully with coffee in the morning or simply mixed with hot water before bed. It’s a wonderful night time tonic before bed to balance out cortisol levels, support healthy glucose metabolism and aid in healthy liver function.

Real Mushrooms 5 Defenders Mushroom:

This is a 5 Defenders mix of medicinal mushrooms shown to be strong immune stimulators. This blend contains Reishi, Turkey Tail, Shiitake, Maitake and Chaga. All of these mushrooms are certified organic/kosher, gluten free and non-gmo. This blend is free of grain or mycelium too! Contains high amounts of beta glucans and triterpenes.

Nut Pods Non-Dairy Creamer (not an affiliate)

If you like your coffee to be creamy, this is great! We add this on occasion when we want a creamier coffee. It mimics dairy creamer, without the dairy. It’s paleo friendly and very flavorful! We find this creamer at Healthy Living New York as well.

Cinnamon:

Sometimes we put cinnamon in our coffee too! Cinnamon just has a comforting taste, but it also helps to stabilize blood sugar, great for working out in a fasted state!

We hope you give our recipe a try! How do you drink your coffee? Have you tried adding any mushrooms or other nootropics? Let us know!

That’s one heck of a cup of coffee!! Does the taste get altered much from all the additions, or does the strength of the coffee keep it tasting like straight coffee?

It sure is! We use Deathwish so it’s pretty strong and bold. The ketones add a bit of sweetness, but not too much! The mushrooms add an earthy flavor.

Sounds fab! Thanks! I’ve seen Deathwish coffee in the store and frankly, was afraid to try it. I just might give it a go next time 😃
